Work Schedule
The position requires working during daytime hours, specifically from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This schedule provides consistency and allows for a healthy work-life balance. Job Responsibilities
As a Greenhouse Labourer, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our greenhouse facilities. Your responsibilities will include dividing fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots, hand harvesting various vegetables, and harvesting seedlings. You will be responsible for mixing fertilizer solutions according to specifications and operating climate control systems to maintain optimal growing conditions for plants.
Daily Tasks
In addition to harvesting and fertilizer mixing, you will be expected to write daily basic progress reports documenting plant growth, weather conditions, and any issues encountered. You will also spray or dust plants with insecticides and fungicides as needed to protect crops from pests and diseases. Planting bulbs and seeds, potting and re-potting plants, and watering tending to plants, lawns and/or gardens will be part of your daily routine. Maintaining a clean work area is essential to ensure a safe and productive environment for all staff.
Required Experience
Previous experience working with greenhouse plants and equipment is highly preferred. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with bedding plants, seasonal plants, and various vegetables including bell peppers, carrots, cauliflowers, cucumbers, greenhouse tomatoes, greenhouse vegetables, herbs, onions, tomatoes, and zucchinis. Experience operating irrigation pumps and equipment is also valuable for this role.
Skills and Qualifications
While specific education requirements are not mentioned, candidates should have a basic understanding of plant care and greenhouse operations. Physical stamina is important as the role involves standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks.
