This position offers a competitive salary range of $18.00 to $22.00 per hour, with the potential for overtime pay, and the opportunity to advance within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this dairy herdsperson position include:

Animal Care and Management

You will be responsible for the daily care and management of our dairy cattle, including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall animal health. This involves ensuring all animals have proper nutrition, clean living conditions, and appropriate veterinary care when needed. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining the health and well-being of our herd.

Milking Operations

You will operate and maintain our automated milking systems, ensuring proper milking procedures are followed to maintain milk quality and animal comfort. This includes cleaning and sanitizing milking equipment, monitoring milking parameters, and addressing any technical issues that may arise with the automated systems.

Calving Process Monitoring

A critical aspect of this role is monitoring the calving process, providing assistance as needed, and ensuring the health and safety of both cows and newborn calves. You will be responsible for recognizing signs of approaching calving and being available to provide timely assistance throughout the calving season.

Health Monitoring

Continuous monitoring of animal health is essential. You will observe cattle for signs of illness or distress, implement health management protocols, and work closely with our veterinary team when medical attention is required. Record-keeping of animal health observations and treatments will be part of your responsibilities.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

You will operate and maintain various farm machinery and equipment, including tractors and other agricultural implements. This includes performing routine maintenance, conducting minor repairs, and ensuring all equipment is in good working condition to support daily farm operations.

General Farm Duties

In addition to specialized responsibilities, you will perform various general farm duties as needed, including barn cleaning, bedding management, feed preparation, and facility maintenance. A willingness to contribute to all aspects of farm operations is essential for this position.

Work Schedule and Environment

This is a full-time position requiring 40-60 hours per week, with flexible scheduling that may include early mornings, daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Overtime is available and may be required based on operational needs. The work environment is primarily outdoors and in barn facilities, with exposure to various weather conditions typical of Ontario’s climate.

  • Additional benefits as per company policy
