About the Role
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Dermatologist to join our vibrant and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced dermatologists looking to advance their careers in a well-established multidisciplinary environment.
You will be part of a team including experienced Consultants, specialist nurses, Trust doctors, and GPs with a special interest in Dermatology. Together, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across a wide range of dermatological conditions.

Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Dermatologist, your main duties will include:
- Leading and inspiring resident doctors and nursing teams in delivering safe, effective outpatient and inpatient care
- Providing expert clinical input for inpatient referrals with no on-call commitment
- Diagnosing and managing all aspects of general dermatology, with a focus on skin cancer and inflammatory skin disease
- Supporting and supervising various nurse-led services including skin surgery, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, biologics clinics, patch testing, and intralesional steroid and Botox injections
You will also be expected to participate in skin cancer multi-disciplinary meetings and demonstrate interest in surgical dermatology with competence in dermatological procedures.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Higher Degree MB BS or equivalent
- Membership or Fellowship of the MRCP
- Full registration with GMC with a licence to practice
- Specialist Qualification in Dermatology or equivalent with certificate of completion of training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
Applicants should be a holder of Certificate of Completion of Training or be within six months of the award of CCT by the date of the interview or the equivalent (CESR) at the time of applying, and be on the GMC Specialist Register.
Person Specification – Essential Experience
You must demonstrate wide experience in all aspects of Dermatology culminating in awareness of CCT in specialties. The role requires experience in surgical dermatology with competence in dermatological surgery, as well as experience of skin cancer multi-disciplinary meetings.
You should also show evidence of participation in staff management and understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal. Additionally, you must have a thorough understanding of principles of medical audit, evidence of participation in audit and research, and understanding of the role of research.
Person Specification – Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications and experiences would be advantageous:
- MD or equivalent
- BSc accreditation
- Experience in other relevant medical specialties
- Completion of courses relevant to Dermatology
- Advanced training in skin surgery/post CCST fellowship
- Management course and/or qualifications
- Knowledge of the structure of Health Service
Person Specification – Personal Attributes
We are looking for candidates who are effective communicators, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team with strong leadership qualities. You should be familiar with information technology and general computer skills, with the ability to work with colleagues in other specialities to develop local services.
A professional attitude towards work with a good record of attendance is essential. Additional desirable attributes include good presentation skills, demonstration of initiated projects, and specific attributes for post UK Driving Licence if applicable.
