Key Responsibilities
As Principal Physicist (MR-Linac Planning), you will be the Medical Physics Expert responsible for developing and overseeing the online adaptive treatment planning process on the Elekta Unity MR-Linac. You will work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team to provide cutting-edge adaptive radiotherapy. The Elekta Unity MR-Linac has been installed and is due to go live in Q2 2026, offering you the opportunity to be at the forefront of this innovative technology.
Specific Duties Include:
- Management of all technical aspects of medical physics and planning activities as they pertain to the MR Linac
- Responsible for the core planning activities within the MRL team
- Implementation of service developments across MR Linac
- Support in determining appropriate courses of action in highly complex situations that may impact service delivery
- Providing effective clinical leadership for staff working in the MRL service
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have current HCPC registration and a Masters degree in a relevant scientific, technical, or healthcare-related discipline. These qualifications are mandatory for registration with the UK’s Health and Care Professions Council and demonstrate your academic foundation in medical physics.
Essential Experience
You must possess the ability to act as a Medical Physics Expert for Radiotherapy as defined in IR(ME)R 2017, along with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of ionising radiation and radiotherapy physics. Additionally, you need advanced knowledge and experience of stereotactic planning and associated requirements, which are essential for working with cutting-edge radiotherapy equipment.
Desirable Experience
While not mandatory, experience with MR Linac technology and line management experience would be advantageous. Previous exposure to MR Linac systems would help you adapt more quickly to this specific technology, while management experience would be beneficial for the leadership aspects of this role.
