About the Role

Our Haltemprice and Beverley Older Peoples Community Mental Health team is seeking a full-time consultant psychiatrist to join our compassionate and highly skilled multi-professional team. The service covers the beautiful historic town of Beverley and the surrounding Haltemprice villages. As a consultant psychiatrist, you will provide medical leadership to a well-established multi-disciplinary team while helping to further develop the service’s functioning.

The successful candidate will attend clinics and home visits and will liaise with the Care Home Best team to provide advice and reviews as required. Importantly, this role carries no responsibility for inpatients, though you will have access to our three inpatient facilities serving the populations of Hull and East Riding.

The position includes at least 2.5 SPAs (Specialty Practitioner Allowances) as standard for a full-time post, with flexibility for enhancements to support other activities that align with the Trust’s wider ambitions.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. You should be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of achieving CCT in Old Age Psychiatry. Approved clinician status is required, or the ability to achieve this within 3 months of appointment. Additionally, you must be approved under S12 or able to achieve this within 3 months of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, candidates in good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice are particularly welcome. Additional qualifications in medical education, clinical research, or management, along with MRCPsych or other additional clinical qualifications, would be advantageous.

Essential Experience

Candidates must hold an MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. You should demonstrate excellent knowledge in your specialty and possess excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective with wide medical knowledge. Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential, along with the ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.

Clinical Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake on-call responsibilities on the specialist Consultant on-call rota for Old Age Psychiatry and Learning Disability. You will be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA, renewing this approval according to agreed procedures.

You will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment, sharing the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working while actively engaging in the development of the service through research and support. The ability to commute within the Trust’s geographical area with access to appropriate transport is essential.
