Job Overview

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Named Nurse for Children and Young Adults to join our safeguarding team. This is a permanent, part-time position offering a competitive salary of £47,810 to £54,710 per annum, pro rata. The post holder will support the Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities and Lead Nurse in delivering safe and effective safeguarding practice across the Trust.

About the Role

The post holder will champion trauma-informed, person-centred practice and lead initiatives to reduce health inequalities experienced by children in care, care leavers, exploited young people, and families affected by domestic abuse. You will provide operational direction and specialist guidance to colleagues and partner agencies to ensure that health needs are fully identified, assessed, and met.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead on the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding and child exploitation pathways for children, young people, and adults. The role involves offering advanced clinical expertise to frontline staff to support robust identification, assessment, and management of risk. You will work alongside the Named Nurse for Adults, Children and Young People and oversee the Safeguarding Nurses and Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Advocate (DASVA).

Safeguarding Leadership

The post holder will provide professional leadership and expert advice to all Trust staff on all aspects of safeguarding. This includes providing high-quality safeguarding training to staff at all levels of the organisation and ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice are delivered to adults, children and young people at risk in partnership with all members of the internal and external multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification – Qualifications

Essential qualifications include registration as a 1st Level Nurse on the NMC register – Child, current NMC registration, and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification (Health Visitor or School Nurse). You must also be compliant with safeguarding mandatory training and have evidence of ongoing safeguarding development, including Safeguarding Supervision training.

Desirable Qualifications

Additional desirable qualifications include Trauma Informed Care training, evidence of ongoing safeguarding training at level 4, Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2) training, DASH training, and being educated to degree level.

Person Specification – Experience

Essential experience includes complex case management involving safeguarding children, young people and adults, working across local authority boundaries to coordinate patient care, designing and delivering training packages, multi-disciplinary and partnership working, carrying out clinical audits, and managing workload to meet clinical priorities.

Essential Experience Continued

You should have experience applying safeguarding frameworks including Right Help, Right Time, Risk Enablement, Think Family, Making Safeguarding Personal, attending safeguarding strategy meetings/case conferences, and writing court reports.

Desirable Experience

Desirable experience includes practising in a specialist nursing role, line management experience including HR-related policies, and attending Best Interests meetings.

Person Specification – Skills

Essential skills include knowledge of Safeguarding/Child Protection legislation, understanding of current safeguarding issues, ability to carry out Mental Capacity Act assessments, awareness of local safeguarding agendas, ability to analyse safeguarding reviews, analytical skills for risk assessment, ability to manage competing priorities, and handling confidential information sensitively.

Desirable Skills

Desirable skills include awareness of the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019.

Person Specification – Personal Qualities

Essential personal qualities include ability to work well under pressure with robust coping strategies, high degree of professionalism, ability to manage high-risk situations, working independently, good presentation and teaching skills, and punctuality.

Desirable qualities include being assertive and having an open-minded approach to learning from experience.
