Job Overview
We are seeking experienced drywall installers to join our growing team. This permanent, full-time position offers excellent compensation at $36.05 per hour based on a 37.5-hour work week. The role involves both interior and exterior drywall installation, finishing, and related plastering work. Our projects span residential homes, commercial buildings, and renovation sites across Brampton and surrounding areas.
Location and Schedule
The work location is primarily on-site in Brampton, Ontario (postal area L6W 0E5). This position requires flexibility in scheduling with work available during morning, day, and evening shifts to accommodate project timelines. Responsibilities Overview
As a drywall installer with CK Flooring & Renovation, you will be responsible for all aspects of drywall installation and finishing. This includes measuring, cutting, and fitting drywall sheets according to specifications. You’ll apply successive coats of compound, sand seams and joints, and create smooth, professional finishes. The role also involves installing metal corner beads to protect exterior corners and applying decorative designs when required.
Surface Preparation
A key responsibility is cleaning and preparing surfaces before installation. This includes removing old materials, repairing damaged areas, and ensuring surfaces are ready for new drywall. You’ll also be responsible for curing freshly plastered surfaces to ensure proper drying and adhesion. Proper surface preparation is critical to achieving high-quality results in our renovation projects.
Installation Techniques
You’ll demonstrate proficiency in cutting and installing metal corner beads to protect exterior corners. This specialized technique prevents damage and creates clean, durable edges. Additionally, you’ll install corner beads and wire mesh around beams to which plaster is to be applied, ensuring structural integrity and proper adhesion of finishing materials.
Finishing Skills
The finishing aspect of this role requires attention to detail and technical skill. You’ll apply, level, and smooth coats of plaster to create seamless walls and ceilings. This includes taping over joints using taping machines and embedding tape in compound for strong, invisible seams. You’ll also smooth out excess compound and allow coats to dry properly between applications.
Decorative Elements
When required, you’ll have the opportunity to finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in the finish coat. This includes moulding and installing ornamental plaster panels, cornices, and trim that add character and value to our clients’ properties. These decorative elements showcase the artistic aspect of the drywall trade.
Site Safety
Safety is paramount in our work environment. You’ll be responsible for erecting and installing scaffolding, falsework, and other working platforms to ensure safe access to elevated work areas. This includes inspecting equipment, following safety protocols, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace to prevent accidents and ensure efficient workflow.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position includes supervisory responsibilities for other workers on site. You’ll coordinate tasks, provide guidance, ensure quality standards are met, and help maintain productivity on our job sites. Experience in team leadership and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse team members are essential for success in this role.
