Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist to join Amber Ward, a 12-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit at Langley Green Hospital in Crawley. This is a key medical and leadership role within our inpatient multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality, person-centred care to adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties.
Benefits and Incentives
This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £45,000 structured over a three-year period as follows:
- £15,000 payable upon successful recruitment
- £10,000 payable at 12 months’ service
- £10,000 payable at 24 months’ service
- £10,000 payable at 36 months’ service

Main Duties of the Job
You will work with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) on the ward to provide excellent care to patients admitted to the ward. You will work with other acute in-patient services in Langley Green and with local community teams. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment to inpatients
- Leading ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Acting as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act
- Supervising junior medical staff and contributing to teaching and training
- Engaging in clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development

This role can also support research, development, medical education or special interests. On appointment, you will have the opportunity to join the Trust-wide consultant network as well as having access to peer support from colleagues here in West Sussex.

Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- MRCPsych
- Additional clinical qualifications

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Desirable
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
