About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a medical fellow to work within the department of Oncology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The post forms part of the Medical Oncology postgraduate training rotation and provides excellent learning opportunities in a supportive environment. The role would ideally suit both trainees wishing to pursue a career in oncology who have completed MRCP part II but are not yet in a training role, as well as those who have finished their oncology training and are looking to develop their breast cancer experience.
The position offers considerable flexibility for doctors to choose their area of research or education, develop their CVs, and enhance clinical experience. This would be ideally suited for someone who has completed or is close to completing their acute medical training and is interested in specialist training in medical or clinical oncology. The applicant would be expected to complete training and clinical opportunities in line with their development needs.
The successful applicant will have both educational and clinical supervision. This post does not have any formal on-call commitment, but the applicant would have the opportunity to participate in the on-call rota if they wished to do so. The post is offered for an initial 6-month period with the possibility of extensions.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post
- Ensuring prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities
- Involving patients in decisions about their care and responding to their views
- Collaborating with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust’s translational research portfolio
- Providing high-quality teaching to medical undergraduates and other healthcare professionals
- Working with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management, and operational efficiency
- Participating in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis
- Demonstrating excellent leadership skills within the ward team
- Working collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential:
- On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- MRCP part 1, MRCP part 2 written
Desirable:
- MRCP part 2 completed
- Completion of core medical training
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians part II
Audit Requirements
Essential: Understanding of principles of clinical audit

Clinical Skills
Essential:
- Excellent team and communication skills
- Experience and competencies in acute oncology emergencies
