About the Position

We are seeking versatile, enthusiastic individuals to join our Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry teams to support our improvement and transformation journey. This is a fantastic time to join us as we need forward-thinking, dynamic change agents who can offer first-class clinical leadership and care across all our Mental Health Specialities.

The successful candidate will be based at Parklands Hospital in Basingstoke and will be responsible for providing clinical care, RC responsibility, and treatment for up to 12 patients per WTE post spread between two newly refurbished single-sex 18-bedded acute wards (Cherry ward for female patients and Juniper ward for male patients).

What Makes This Role Special

This inpatient role stands out from other acute psychiatric inpatient roles currently advertised due to the favourable ratio of medical time per patient. The post-holder will have a maximum of 12 inpatients at any point in time, supported by a middle grade doctor (Specialty Doctor) and several resident doctors at different levels of experience (1 FY doctor, 1 T doctor, and 1 SpR).

Roles are available for a full-time position on the female ward, working alongside a part-time substantive colleague, as well as a part-time role on the male ward, working alongside a full-time substantive colleague.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential qualifications for this position include:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview
  • CCT in general adult psychiatry
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
