Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the team at the North Ceredigion Community Mental Health Team. Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant to join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking mental health service.
The successful applicant will provide clinical expertise and strategic leadership as we develop our mental health services to meet the population needs of Hywel Dda UHB. This is an excellent opportunity for international medical professionals looking to relocate to the UK with sponsorship available for eligible candidates.
The position involves providing, with consultant colleagues, a service in Adult General Community Psychiatry and supporting the development of sub-speciality interest to the hospitals and community so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
Job Responsibilities
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
- To ensure the provision and delivery of a first class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board’s service plans
- Core clinical expertise in Adult General Psychiatry
- Generic skills in multidisciplinary assessment and community management of acute and chronic mental health problems
- Experience and knowledge of running a sub specialty service
- Supporting and training multidisciplinary teams
- Delivering care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams
- Addressing the Intermediate Care Agenda
- Participating in CPD including Audit
- Maintain good standing with Royal College for CPD
- Educational Supervisor role to Junior and Middle Grade Medical Staff
- To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence based medicine

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following essential qualifications:
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MRCPsych or FRCPsych or equivalent
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
- Approved Clinician Status
- Section 12 approved
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
Desirable Qualifications
The following qualifications are desirable but not essential:
- Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
- On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
- CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration
- Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
- Additional clinical qualification(s)
Clinical Experience Requirements
Essential clinical experience includes:
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and participation in CPD
- Competence in eg. Acute General and Geriatric Medicine
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
Desirable clinical experience includes:
- Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
- Evidence of above average performance
- Additional clinical qualification(s)
- Knowledge of risk management
Research and Teaching Requirements
Essential research and teaching requirements:
- Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes
- Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable research and teaching requirements:
- Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
- Research degree
- Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education
- “Training the Trainers” experience
Management Requirements
Essential management requirement:
- Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS
