Job Summary
Mendip Vale Medical Group (MVMG) is a thriving general medical services practice with a team of over 300 professionals delivering innovative care across North Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucester. We serve approximately 85,000 patients across 10 sites and have recently expanded with additional locations in the BNSSG area. We are seeking exceptional clinicians to join our growing team.
We are a high-achieving, well-organized practice that embraces a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach to care provision. Our team includes advanced practitioners, clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists, pharmacy technicians, mental health nurses, and social prescribers working together to provide patients with seamless, safe, and effective care.
MVMG was one of the first practices in the area to implement clinical pharmacists in general practice, offer a nurse-led coil service, run an advanced practitioner-led model of care for nursing and residential homes, and utilize an MDT approach for urgent care. This approach enables our acute practitioners to handle the majority of same-day visits.
We are looking for an additional GP to join our Sea Mills team in Bristol. We can support newly qualified positions or experienced clinicians looking to enhance their careers and develop special interests. Recent investments in our buildings have made our estate one of the newest and brightest in the southwest region.
About the Employer
MVMG is a thriving GMS practice with very high Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) achievements, which allows us to invest in our team and equipment. Our clinicians are involved in a variety of activities including sessional funding for research, occupational health services, training, medical cover for sporting teams, roles in commissioning, PCN Clinical Directorship, Locality Leads, and Dermatology GPwSI.
We recognize the importance of a good work-life balance and strive to ensure this for our team. We have morning coffee time templates, monthly protected whole practice meetings, and access to training and development funding. We offer a highly competitive package to suit your lifestyle, including protected learning, flexible working arrangements, mentoring, and opportunities to develop special interests.
Job Responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients presenting with a wide range of healthcare needs within a primary care setting. Working alongside clinical and operational colleagues, you will deliver a safe, high-performing, effective, sustainable, innovative, and person-centered medical service.
You will develop good working relationships with patients, advanced practitioners, clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, surgery staff, GP colleagues, community healthcare staff, and hospital staff. Your clinical responsibilities will include providing a comprehensive range of clinical duties at the agreed surgeries within the group.
Duties will involve undertaking surgery consultations, home visits when necessary, and handling telephone queries from patients and healthcare professionals. You will make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organization.
You may be required to undertake on-call duties as part of the surgery on-call rota, which may include requesting patients to present at the surgery, telephone consultations, home visits, and triage. You will admit or discharge patients to and from your caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
You will work with patients to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments, providing information and advice on medication regimens, side-effects, and interactions. You will prioritize health problems and intervene appropriately in complex, urgent, or emergency situations, including initiating effective emergency care.
You will support patients in adopting health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care. You will also manage health needs of patients presenting for family planning or sexual health consultations and assess, identify, and refer patients with mental health needs in accordance with national and local guidelines.
Other responsibilities include assessing healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness, and developing care plans in consultation with patients and in line with current disease management protocols.
You will be required to record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards, collect data for audit purposes, and compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
