Job Overview

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join their dynamic mental health services. This is a substantive post offering 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week, with 6 PAs dedicated to the GMAIC service and 4 PAs to the Crisis service.

The successful candidate will be part of a supportive Directorate and CAMHS Consultant peer group. This represents an exciting new opportunity to develop the role collaboratively with acute care teams while maintaining strong relationships with community CAMHS and inpatient services across Greater Manchester.

Role Summary

The consultant psychiatrist will provide medical oversight and clinical consultation to the Crisis team and GMAIC for assessment, management, and treatment of young people presenting with mental health disorders. The post holder will contribute to face-to-face assessments for complex, uncertain, and significant risk presentations.

Key responsibilities include making clinical judgments on the appropriateness and suitability for admission to inpatient services, providing guidance when inpatient care is not required, and offering supervision to Non-Medical Prescribers (NMP) within Crisis and GMAIC services.

Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Taking clinical responsibility for young people open to the crisis service and GMAIC requiring medical input
  • Leading the clinical team in acute care service, providing emergency, urgent, and elective multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment
  • Working with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive psychosocial multiaxial diagnostic assessment and formulation
  • Providing consultation to referrals from community CAMHS services and other mental health services

Working Pattern and Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent position with a salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per year (pro rata). The post consists of 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week across the week. Out of hours, consultant input will be provided through the medical on-call rota.

The Trust supports clinical practice development through teaching or research within the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, offering opportunities for professional growth and development.

Educational Qualifications

Essential: Full GMC Registration

Desirable: Published research MRCPsych

Professional/Occupational Qualifications

Essential:

  • Possession of CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or be within 6 months of achieving this or entered on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Section 12 Approval under Mental Health Act 1983, or be eligible for approval
  • Demonstrable competency across the PMETB approved curriculum for higher training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry
  • Registered for CPD with the RCPsych

Desirable: Other postgraduate degrees e.g. MSc, MD etc
